Winter Weather
Winter weather is now upon us! We request that all students come prepared each day for snow and cold weather. We have placed a boot rack by our outside door, for your child to place their boots. It is helpful for all outdoor wear to be labeled, as often students share the same great taste in clothing, as well as size! Students should have in-door shoes that can be left at school. If your child likes to play in the snow, we ask that they bring snow pants to keep them warm and dry. Please remind your child that even though it is warm and cosy inside, they must wear their winter jackets outside to promote good health. We appreciate your support!

GREEN THUMB THEATER PRESENTATION
Today, Green Thumb Theater presented People Like Vince. This presentation discussed how a ten year old girl, Myrtle is having a hard time making friends at her new school. Then, her Uncle Vince shows up in town and she finally feels like she has someone who understands her and with whom she can really be herself. Her friendship with her Uncle Vince becomes the closest and most important relationship in her life but sometimes his behaviour confuses her and even causes the other kids at school make fun of her. When Uncle Vince suddenly stops coming to see her, Myrtle learns how to deal with and accept his lifelong struggle with mental illness. Written specifically so younger youth can understand and relate, People Like Vince is a light-hearted, sensitive and compassionate look at a serious subject that affects us all.

CURLING PRESENTATION - Today our class participated in the Rocks and Rings Curling program, presented by Kathy. This was a great way for students to be introduced to the great sport of Curling. Kathy led students through the basics of curling (house, rocks, point system, sweeping) so that they could experience first hand the game of curling. If your child is interested in curling they will be bringing home a certificate with information of youth leagues on the back. Thanks to our PAC and Kathy, for this great experience. FUN!!

MATH DRILLS HOMEWORK BOOK
Today your child will be bringing home a math drill workbook. They have set up the notebook and have read through the instructions with me in class. We have also practised a drill together. Please keep this drill book at home until I request that it is sent back to school for my review. As always, our class goal is to improve our accuracy as well as improve our time (fact recall). This work does require some parent supervision. I appreciate your time!
WORKING IT OUT
We have completed looking at the Working it Out focus for September, which examined problem solving solutions which examined Recognizing Different Points of View. Although we will be moving on, we will still very much be utilizing the skills and language reviewed. Please ask your child to try to problem solve from a variety of perspectives/point of views as well as to see other's opinions when discussing issues.
WELCOME!
Today, Ms. Laurel Petty joined the Grade 3/4 class. Ms. Petty will be with the class for the remainder of the year, working in the afternoons instructing your children in the areas of Socials, Science, Health and Career Education, as well as Daily Physical Activity on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. I know that Ms. Petty will look forward to meeting with you over the next couple of week. I look forward to collaborating with Ms. Petty and know that we will have a great year working with your children.SAD / GLAD MOMENT
I am sad to see Mr. Bamsey leave the McGowan team. I enjoyed working with Mr. Bamsey for the month of September. I am very glad to report that Mr. Bamsey accepted a position in Clearwater and will be available to work on the TOC list. We hope to see Mr. Bamsey at McGowan, soon!

RAZ KIDS
As part of our Reading program, each child has been given access to the on-line reading program, Raz Kids. Each week students will be asked to read books on this program, with some school time given during computer labs. Whenever possible, I will ask students to read and record one book each week for teacher evaluation and comments. These recordings help me to assist your child becoming a better reader. I also encourage students to use the listening component to this program, so that they can emulate and copy what they are hearing. I hope that you and your child enjoy this program.
THANK YOU!
It has been a pleasure to spend time with you discussing the growth and expectations of your children. Thank you to all families for
taking the time to meet yesterday and today for the PTMs. I do understand how busy
life is, and appreciate your time. Have a good night. See you tomorrow. Ms. P.
