Thank you to all families for your fabulous support of our O'Keefe Ranch field trip.  The students looked amazing and their lunches reflected the time period.  Thank you for working so hard to make this experience authentic!! 

Thank you to the family members who were able to accompany us.  Your support is essential for these learning experiences.  Thanks go out to Mrs. Gough, Mrs. Keating, Mrs. Lambert, Mrs. Meredith, Mrs. Monteith, Mrs. Murray,  Mrs. Vanderpeer, Mrs. Warner, and Mrs. Zelenick.  We so appreciated you leading groups through the historical lessons.  

A special thank you to Mr. Vorpahl, who assisted in our preparation with student work books.

TAP CO

Today students participated in an Art Starts presentation by the Tap Co dance company.  Students were introduced to the history of tap and some tap moves.  The school had fun learning a few tap moves to add to our dance repertoire :-) !

Thank you to Mrs. Meredith for supporting us with our pattern math today.  We appreciate your time and patience as we learned to finger knit.  Students are asked to bring in a ball of wool in a plastic baggie so that we can have time to knit together in the coming days.

Thank you to Mr. Vorpahl for showing the students core samples from the Adam's Lake area.  This is an excellent example of different kinds of rocks that are native to our region.

Special Goodbye
This THURSDAY is Ishaan's last day with the grade 2 class at McGowan.  We are having a celebration for Ishaan.  Students are requested to bring in 1 piece of cut up fruit for a Friendship Fruit Salad, as well as bring in one personal sized bag of a special 'surprise item' to assist in the celebration.  Hot dogs will be served for lunch.   Thank you for helping make Ishaan's last week memorable!

Special Guest
Today Mrs. Russett, one of our district numeracy math coordinators, joined our class to extend our learning.  Students enjoyed an interactive lesson focused on developing number sense.  We appreciate Mrs. Russett's skills and fun games.

Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

PIONEER COOKING
Thank you to our fabulous family members for join us and leading students in Pioneer cooking.  Students participated in grinding wheat, making bread, butter and ice cream made from single food ingredients and using traditional equipment.  Our thanks and appreciation go out to Mrs. Kronebush, Mrs. Meredith, Mrs. Warner, and Mr. Vorpahl.  We would also like to extend our thanks to Mrs. Dodds and Mrs. Guido who were instrumental in our bread making.  Many thanks for your time, patience and leadership.  What a great morning!!  :-)

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

CINCO DE MAYO
Today students learned about the celebration of Cinco de Mayo.  Students learned about the history of this celebration as well as special cultural traditions (foods, dance, colours).  

PIONEER COOKING
Tomorrow students will participate in food preparation as part of our Pioneer Unit.  Students will learn about food mills, grinding grain, as well as participate in making bread, butter, and ice cream using pioneering methods.

PROJECT SOUL
Today students participated in an Art Starts dance presentation performed by Project Soul.  A brief history and introduction to hip hop, locking, break dancing as well as beat boxing/rapping were introduced.  Our very own Aiden, Ishaan, and Boston took to the stage, learning and performing various dance moves.  Project Soul was a fabulous was to learn about different kinds of dance.

Thank you to Mrs. Murray  who came in today and led students in Science labs involving seeds.  We so appreciate your time and leadership.  What a great way for students to learn about seeds.  Thank you for choosing to spend part of your morning with us!!  We appreciate you!

FIELD TRIPS
On Monday, May 30th, our class with Mrs. McCaughtery's class are off to O'Keefe Ranch, which is located just outside of Vernon.  We will be travelling by school bus.  We will leave the school right at 8:30 am and leave the ranch around 1:00 pm.  

Students are asked to dress as they did for the Spring Production (1800's period).  Students are asked to bring a lunch with easy to eat foods and extra drinks.  There is a candy store on sight.  If you wish to send a toonie with your child, they will have an opportunity to shop.  :-)

On, Monday June 6, our class will and Mrs. McCugherty's classes are off to Smiling Pond, (near McQueen Lac on Lac du Bois Road, [Bachelor Heights]).  Our classes will be travelling by school bus.  We will be leaving the school right at 8:30 am and leaving the site around 1:00 pm.  

Students are asked to dress in layers, wear a hat, as well as wear runners with socks as we will be hiking.  Students are requested to come to school with both sunscreen and bug spray on, as the site is know to have many mosquitoes :-(.    Please send an easy to eat lunch with extra drinks [water] with low packaging, as we must take everything from the site that we bring in.  Backpacks should be light as your child will be required to carry their own pack throughout the trip.  

It is tick season, so please check for ticks when your child gets home.
