Valentine List
Our class will celebrate Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th.  If choosing to share valentine's, it is considerate to include all class members.  Today, your child has created a class list in alphabetical order.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING?
Students have been working on hard.  In Language Arts, students have been focusing on reading with greater fluency (accuracy, expression, phrasing, and comprehension) through our Fairy Tale unit.  We continue to work on developing our reading/writing vocabulary through weekly list words, with a greater emphasis being placed on usage in speaking, reading, and writing, over weekly spelling test results.  Students write in a variety of ways in our reading responses (Fairy Tales, Cultural Celebrations work, speeches, reading responses, journal, learning log, etc.)

In Math students continue to develop numeracy skills through activities, games, drills and class work.  Skills include:  addition (with a focus on front end addition without regrouping/with regrouping), place value, money and combination of values to $1, as well as being able to compare numbers using terms less than, greater than, and equal to.  Students continue to work through problems using manipulatives and stories.   Mrs. Underwood has led students through lessons and activities focused on probability and the likelihood of an event occurring.

Students have recently complete a unit on mapping in Social Studies focusing on developing familiarity with Cardinal directions, legends, keys, map grids and scale.

In Science we have started a unit o the Wonders of Weather.  This unit incorporates an exploratory question, discussion and activities that engage students in problem solving.

We continue to develop strength, flexibility, and control of our physical abilities through our gymnastics program and our physical literacy education sessions.

Thank you for supporting the development and progress of your child each day.  You are an integral part of their daily success!  :-)
